"SuperNatural" British Columbia
Vancouver, Canada
The winning entry of a public art competition for the design of three traffic-circles to slow traffic in a residential district. At each intersection a 25-ton rock was installed to appear as if it had just been dropped in the middle of the road amongst a field of yellow traffic reflectors. The imposing presence and the physicality of the rock become the traffic-calming device.
The project recognizes the Canadian identification with super nature, but does not cede that identification to an easy domesticity.
